Use contrasting colors or complementary colors. A pink dress is enhanced with a dark pink or gray. A black dress can handle a bold color like red or purple. A white dress will go with just about anything. Blue dresses might look great with a gold or different shade of blue sash. Match the sash with your dates tux cummerbund.

Another way to have something unique is to get a satiny full long skirt in black. Wear a top that has lots of sparkle or lace or bet a bustier and wear it with a simple top. If you dare find a bubble skirt to wear on the bottom or pants that look like a long dress.
