Whoever would have thought that teens would actually go to prom wearing no clothes and get paid? You know that silver roll of tape in everyone’s junk door aka duct tape? Well teens are making duct tap fabric (instructions below) to create tuxes and prom dresses to wear to prom, and getting paid for it. If the teen both he and she arrive at prom, take pictures, and then are selected they will win a $5,000 scholarship. This is just one of the scholarships that I found for duct tape. All of the prom duct tape scholarships have general rules. Below is a guideline of what is required on most scholarships.

General Rules:

TIMING. If you are a procrastinator like I am then you better get started today lol. Every scholarship has a deadline of when it can be submitted. Make sure that you have it post dated before the due date. Other wise you will have done all that work for nothing, well other than fun.

SPONSOR. Sometimes these scholarships will have a sponsor. If there is a sponsor for the duct tape scholarship you enter then it is always nice to send a thank you letter.

ELIGIBILITY. The duct tape scholarships will vary depending on where you reside. Make sure that wherever you live that you are eligible for that scholarship.

AGREEMENT TO OFFICIAL RULES. Participation in these contests usually consist of contestants full and unconditional agreement and acceptance to their official rules. By entering in one of these contests you are agreeing that your submission is an original work, and has not been previously published or won any award, and that you are not making anything that has previously been copy-written “No Infringement.”

NO INFRINGEMENT. Basically here you are agreeing that your contest entry is not infringing upon any third party, property rights, copyright, trademark, or patent.

HOW TO ENTER. Each scholarship has a different set of rules. Make sure that you follow the rules so you wont get disqualified.

LIMIT ONE CONTEST ENTRY PER ENTRANT COUPLE. Most prom duct tape scholarships allow only one entry. I mean it’s only fair that each couple is allowed to enter only once.

JUDGING CRITERIA/OVERALL AWARDS. Sometimes they have only one grand prize and other times they have 1st, 2nd, and 3rd. There is usually a panel of judges, a final selection, and they judge you on certain criteria.

Example:

o Workmanship

o Originality

o Use of Colors

o Accessories

o Quantity of Duct Tape Used

o Sometimes they will let the public decide and vote on the finalist.

PRIZES. Prizes prizes and more prizes. Everyone loves winning or at least I do lol. The number one contestant or contestants will receive a scholarship and sometime even prizes.

TERMS AND CONDITIONS. Terms and conditions will vary on each scholarship.

PRIZE WINNERS AND OFFICIAL RULES. Make sure that you read the official rules for each scholarship as sometimes they may vary.

If you want to win that $5,000 you better get your creative hat out, have fun, and get yourself lots of duct tape. Now if you want to start making some duct tape clothes then you need to first make your fabrics. Follow these simple directions to make your own duct tape fabric.

1. Cut a strip of your choice colored duct tape to desired length and lay it sticky side up on work surface.

2. Cut another strip the same length

3. Place the second strip over the first strip to where it slightly overlaps.

4. Continue cutting and overlapping strips until you have the appropriate width and length for your duct tape project.

5. Turn the strip to where it is facing vertically.

6. When you are finished trim off all the sticky edges.

Tips

If you have any excess tape hanging over the sides then just fold it over and keep on adding on.
